This notice explains what personal information getsocial.uk collects, why, and what happens to it. It's written in plain English because we'd rather you read it.
Who we are
Get Social is Get Social Ltd, company number 12415409, registered at 11 The Quarries, Swindon, England, SN1 4EX. We're the data controller for the information described here. Get Social Ltd has applied to register with the Information Commissioner's Office (application C2040451); the registration number will be added here when it is issued.
If you have a question about your data or want to exercise any of the rights below, email hello@getsocial.uk.
What we collect, and why
When you send an enquiry
The enquiry form and the event-booking form ask for:
- your name and email address (required)
- your phone number (optional)
- for event enquiries: the type of event, headcount, preferred date and location (all optional)
- your message
- a tick to confirm you're happy for us to get in touch about your enquiry
- an optional second tick if you'd like occasional news from us
We use this to reply to you and, if you go ahead, to plan and deliver your event. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us about our services.
If you tick the optional box, your name and email address are added automatically to our mailing list, hosted by Mailchimp, as “pending”: Mailchimp emails you a link to confirm, and we send nothing until you click it. After that we'll send you occasional emails about what we do. Every one carries an unsubscribe link, and you can tell us to stop at any time by replying or by writing to the address above. If you don't tick it, you won't be added. Our lawful basis for that list is your consent; the time you ticked the box and the version of this notice you saw are recorded on your Mailchimp entry and kept for as long as you're on the list. If you were already on the list, ticking the box changes nothing about your entry.
When you ask to be told about a product
The “notify me” form on titles that aren't out yet asks only for your email address, plus which product you're interested in and the same confirmation tick. We use it to send you one email when that product is available. Our lawful basis is your consent. We note the time you ticked the box and which version of this notice you saw, and you can withdraw consent at any time by replying to either email or writing to the address above.
It also has the same optional second tick as the enquiry form. If you tick it, your email address is added to our Mailchimp mailing list as “pending”, with a note of which product you asked about, exactly as described above: nothing is sent until you confirm. If you don't tick it, we email you only about that product.
Two things the forms collect that you don't type
- How long you spent on the form. The page measures the time between loading and submitting, on your device, and sends that number with the form. Submissions that arrive impossibly fast are treated as automated and not delivered. The number isn't stored.
- A hidden field that real visitors never fill in. Bots do. If it's filled, the submission is discarded.
Where your enquiry goes
Both forms are delivered as an email to hello@getsocial.uk through Resend (resend.com), an email delivery service that acts as our processor. You'll also get a short confirmation email from us to the address you gave. Resend handles the sending only and doesn't use your details for its own purposes; its privacy notice is at resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Your enquiry then lives in our inbox, which is hosted by Google Workspace, acting as our processor. We keep it for up to two years after our last contact with you, after which it's deleted. If you ticked the box asking for occasional news, your name (on the enquiry form) and email address are also added automatically to our mailing list, hosted by Mailchimp, as pending until you confirm through the email Mailchimp sends; every email we send from it carries an unsubscribe link.
Our server logs
Whenever you send an enquiry, the site records your contact details (name, email, phone and the event details, but never your message) in our hosting provider's logs at the moment it receives them, so that a lead can't be lost if the email fails on its way out. The same applies to the notify-me form (your email address, the product, and whether you ticked the news box). The same details are recorded if a submission is filtered as suspected spam, so a genuine enquiry caught by mistake isn't lost either. Our host is Vercel (vercel.com), and those logs are kept for about a day before they're gone.
If the email carrying your enquiry fails to send, or is bounced or rejected on its way to our inbox, we may also receive an automated alert carrying the same contact details (never your message) at a mailbox we run outside getsocial.uk, so that we can still reply to you by hand.
Where your data is processed
Resend, Vercel, Google Workspace and Mailchimp are all based outside the UK, so your details are processed abroad. We rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, which contractually requires them to protect your data to UK standards. Email hello@getsocial.uk for a copy of those terms.
Your IP address
When you submit a form, or sign in to the site's admin area, the site uses your IP address only to count submissions from one connection within a short window (ten minutes for the forms, fifteen for admin sign-in). It's kept in the memory of the server handling your request, never in a database or a file, and is discarded when the window has passed or when that server is recycled. It also appears in the log entry described above if a submission is filtered as suspected spam.
Cookies and similar things
We set no analytics or marketing cookies. No Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no session recording, no advertising tags.
We do count visits, with Vercel Web Analytics, run by our host. It records which pages are viewed, the referring site, and your broad location, browser, operating system and device type, and it counts a few actions: starting and sending a form (not what you type, and not which boxes you tick), which product a notify-me request was for, and following a link to another site (only which site). It sets no cookie. To tell one visit from another it uses a code worked out from your request, which is discarded after 24 hours and which we can't use to identify you; Vercel doesn't tie the counts to your IP address, and we only ever see aggregate numbers. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in knowing which pages work and whether the forms are being used. If you'd rather not be counted, switch on Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track in your browser: when either is on, the site sends nothing to Vercel Web Analytics.
There is exactly one cookie, and you'll almost certainly never receive it: admin-session is set only when the site owner signs in to the admin area to edit content. It lasts seven days, is only sent over HTTPS, and can't be read by scripts. It's strictly necessary for that sign-in to work, so it doesn't need consent. Ordinary visitors never see the sign-in page and are never given this cookie. The admin editing tool also keeps two small settings in browser storage so the owner's edit mode persists between pages. The site checks for those two settings on every visit; on an ordinary visitor's browser it finds nothing, writes nothing and sends nothing.
Fonts
The site uses the Poppins typeface, served from our own site. Your browser doesn't contact Google Fonts and Google receives nothing about your visit.
Links to other sites
Some pages link out to services we don't run: Outsavvy for tickets to our public quiz nights, Google for our reviews, popularitythegame.com where the Popularity board game is sold, and nosexgayweekend.com and thegayescape.com. Once you follow a link you're covered by their privacy notice, not this one.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you, and give you a copy
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete it
- stop using it, or limit how we use it
- give it to you in a form you can pass to someone else
You can also object to our using your details on the basis of legitimate interests, and withdraw consent where that's the basis we rely on. Email hello@getsocial.uk and we'll respond within a month. If you're not happy with how we handle it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Our services are for organisations and adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and the enquiry forms aren't intended for them.
Changes
If we change how the site handles information, for example if we ever add a cookie banner or an online shop, we'll update this notice and the date at the top. The current version is always at getsocial.uk/privacy.
